Important Lesson of The Day.

This is possibly going to be a new feature, just a quick post about something that is important to the functioning of your PC, today I have two:

If you encrypt your hard drive with BitLocker, DO NOT LOSE THE KEY, you will have to pull the hard drive out of your PC, and format it, and then reinstall the operating system. I learnt this the hard way. I was temporarily using Windows 7 Enterprise in order to do a walk-through on using BitLocker, decided I was going back to Windows 7 Professional and couldn't do it because I didn't have the key to decrypt the drive. I had to (totally mess up my desk) open up my PC, plug the hard drive into an eSATA drive on my laptop, and format the whole disk!

When you put your PC back together after replacing something inside it, ensure that all of the cards, (RAM, video, etc) are seated properly. Again, learnt the hard way, tried to turn my PC on, got a flashing red LED and 5 beeps prior to the BIOS, this means a memory error, had to (totally mess up my desk again) open up my PC to reseat all of the RAM modules. Seriously, you'll save yourself a lot of time by making sure everything is properly inserted before you put everything back together the first time!
