Wayne Manor Film and TV Club

Good evening folks, it's been a little while since I did one of these, so tonight I'm going to run through the three most recent things I've watched.

We're going to start with Gotham, although I think this is on episode 4 in the States now, the first episode only aired here yesterday and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I do feel that introducing Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler, Fish Moonie and Carmite Falcone all in one episode was a little bit much, but generally I thought it was very good. Ben McKenzie is brilliant as James Gordon, though to look at him in places he reminded me of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I thought his performance was really good, and he captured the straight-laced nature of Gordon very well. Visually the episode looked stunning, I like the fact that Gotham is a very dark place, it's very gritty, and that was something I had been worried about, the idea that they might overdo it a little, but I think it's been very well done. It feels more like a crime drama than a superhero series and that's a good thing because that's exactly what it is. Gotham before Batman, before the hero it is just normal cops. I'm hoping they don't steer to far away from that as the series goes on, keep the crime feel and skip the superheroes! But the question is, with five villains introduced in the first episode, how far can they really take this series without Batman? Or will we see the caped crusader in a later series?

Second on tonights list is Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. I'm really behind on this one, but sadly I don't get a lot of time to go out and watch films, and I really don't mind being late.
I'm a massive Sin City fan, I loved the first film with an absolute passion, and so I was really, really excited about this one, from the second it was announced, and then there were the teaser trailers and the sexy posters and the wait killed me, but I have to be perfectly honest, it was totally worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the whole film, the whole cast was incredible, and I especially loved Mickey Rourke in his second outing as Marv, who is probably my favourite character from the first film. I think Jessica Alba's role was played down quite a bit, right up until the end, and it was a good ending. The only thing about the film that really screwed me up was the time scale, parts of it were a prequel, parts a sequel, and I'm fairly certain some of it must have been in a parallel universe.
I really liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt too! I thought he was fantastic, quite possibly one of the best performances of the film, along  with the delightfully deceptive Eva Green, I have a bit of a girl crush on her now! Of course the other thing that I liked was Lady Gaga's little cameo, it was just really cool!

Last but not least is Lucy, again something else I'm a couple of weeks behind on, I actually went to see this when it first came out, but I only just got round to posting about it. I have a massive girl crush on Scarlett Johansson so I totally expected to love this film and I really did. It was a little bit of a slow start, and to be honest the idea of a weak and vulnerable Scarlett Johansson is a bit strange to me, but once the film picked up all of my doubts filtered away. Now I have to say I feel the ending was a teensy bit anti-climactic, though it wasn't disappointing, I guess I just hoped for a little more. Parts of it, like the scene in the hospital, were reminiscent of Shirley Manson's character in the Sarah Connor Chronicles, although much less bloody. I've racked my brains trying to find something I really didn't like about the film, but I've come up with nothing, it's a really out there film, a superhero film that wasn't a comic book first I guess. I'm a big Luc Besson fan, I especially love Leon and the Fifth Element, so I'm very glad he didn't let me down!

Hopefully tomorrow or Thursday night I'll have a quick post about the first episode of season 2 of Sleepy Hollow, provided I get a little time! Until then, happy watching folks!

The Wanderer Returneth

Evening everyone, I've been a little quiet recently and for that I'm very sorry! I started a new job at the end of last month and I've just been getting my head around that!
Sadly I had to part ways with Peavey as they will be closing their UK arm of the company at the end of the year, and I was offered another job opportunity that I just could not turn down. I am now a junior technician at a computer repair centre in my hometown, and I love it. I get to take apart laptops every day and I feel like I'm actually doing something productive. Sadly it means I can no longer spend my entire work day blogging, but fear not, I shall still find time!

Next Saturday is LFCC - Winter and I am so damn excited! I have my cosplay all ready to go and I'm counting down the seconds! You can guarantee there will be a post about it in about 8 days time! Watch this space.

Anyway folks, that's all for now, just figured I should let you all know I am still alive!

Peace out!
